Lisa

In the name of full disclosure, this entry is not for me. However, it doesn’t make it any less special. Yes, I am a HUGE Michael Bernard Fitzgerald fan, and yes, I am marrying the love of my life this year and would love to chance to win these rings for us, but life is about making sacrifices for the ones we love. This entry is really for my best friend, Samantha. In the summer of 2010, my best friend Sam picked me up and told me we were going for a drive so she could play a new album she just bought. She saw this amazing artist at the Toronto Fringe festival, and bought his CD because she knew I would fall in love with him just as she did (we have been BBF’s since we were 4 years old so the girl knows me well). ‘Movie Life’ was our jam that summer. We both graduated from university, and were on the cusp of true ‘adulthood’—grown up jobs, real responsibilities, and finding true love. It took us a few years, and many heartbreaks, to find our guys. March of 2012 was special for me as I took Samantha and my now fiancé to his first MBF concert. It was at that concert, during ‘Love is an Easy Thing to Miss’ that I realized I was head over heels in love with my guy Justin, and that he was the one for me. That song will play at our wedding in November. Unfortunately, Sam brought a guy to that concert who she thought was her ‘one’ but he turned out not to be worthy of her. It took a couple of years for her to move past what could have been, and when she did, she met Ben. Samantha and Ben’s love story is exceptional. They met by chance in Toronto, and totally hit it off, but on their first date he revealed that he was moving to Hawaii in a month. Sam called me the next day in tears because she knew she had found someone just as extraordinary as her, and didn’t want to get her heart broken yet again. As her sounding board, I told her to take the gamble, and to have the best month of her life. A week before Ben was to leave, he asked Samantha to come with him. This love story has travelled to Hawaii, to Australia where they got engaged in front of the Sydney Opera House, and is now backpacking across Europe on the #sbmegatrip. At the end of their European adventure, my best friend will be settling down in Hawaii with her soon-to-be husband who found his dream job. While I am sad to see her go, I am over the moon that she has finally found the happiness she deserves with such a wonderful partner by her side. As I sit here listening to ‘I Wanna to Make It with You’ and writing this entry, I realize how this opportunity came to be, and I feel indebted. Without sounding trite, Michael’s music has been the soundtrack of our friendship for the past 6 years. The music gave us the permission to reflect on past love and taught us to embrace the magic to come. For this, I am eternally grateful. I realize that this entry is just one of hundreds you will receive, and that there are many amazing couples who are all worthy of such a generous opportunity. But as I write this, I realize that these rings represent more than just a joyous future for one special couple—they will be adjoining many love stories together. Sam’s story, my story, Michael’s story—connected together and worn as a promise to uphold love in all of its forms. I can’t think of anything more romantic for my beautiful, wears-her-heart-on-her-sleeve best friend. She deserves the privilege to carry our stories alongside her own, and I know she will do so proudly. Thank you so much for your consideration, and best of luck finding the fortunate couple. Kindest regards, Lisa Nikolic
